Pantry's Harvest

As part of the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County's 100th Anniversary Celebration and our commitment to 100 years of community impact, we are proud to announce a new partnership with the Southeast Texas Food Bank: the Pantry Harvest Initiative.

We know that the second half of the year can bring significant economic strain for families as children return to school and the holiday season approaches. During these critical months, many local food pantries experience increased demand while working to meet the needs of individuals and families facing food insecurity.

To help strengthen the support available in our community, United Way MSJC is investing $50,000 in the Pantry Harvest Initiative. From September 2026 through January 2027, we will partner with eight food pantries in Mid & South Jefferson County, identified in collaboration with the Southeast Texas Food Bank, to increase their monthly food orders and expand the resources available to the families they serve. 

With the help of the SETX Food Bank, the United Way will credit each pantry to double their purchases during the difficult months of August, September, December, and January.

In addition to increasing pantry staple items, the initiative will place a special emphasis on expanding access to meat and other protein-rich foods. Protein is often one of the most requested and most costly food items for pantries to provide, and increasing its availability can make a meaningful difference for families facing food insecurity.

This initiative is open to all participating pantries identified through the partnership process and is designed to help local organizations meet increased community needs during the fall and holiday seasons. 

 

Our goal is simple: ensure that local pantries have additional resources available during a time when many families need them most.

The Pantry Harvest Initiative reflects the spirit that has guided United Way for the past 100 years—neighbors helping neighbors and communities coming together to address local needs.
