United Way Awards Over $265,000 in Community Grants


United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County has announced the distribution of $265,396 in A.L.I.C.E. and Impact Grants to 22 nonprofit organizations across Jefferson County.
A.L.I.C.E. (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) represents working families who struggle to afford basic needs despite being employed. This year’s A.L.I.C.E. grants total $149,600, supporting programs that address food insecurity, housing stability, and access to advocacy and mental health services.
Highlights include $46,700 in food security initiatives, $16,000 to the Women & Children’s Shelter for legal advocacy, and $14,700 to Samaritan Counseling Center to assist teens facing housing instability.
Impact Grants totaling $115,796 include a collaboration between the Southeast Texas Food Bank and Community Care Prayer Outreach to expand cold storage, and $10,000 to Nutrition & Services for Seniors to support transportation for seniors to medical and grocery appointments.
